Question: How does one achieve maximum skincare results using a minimal routine? Answer: Start with the basics and go on from there...

Cleanse-Tone-Moisturise chart and tips

1. Cleanse using gentle yet effective products that do not strip the skin such as The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter. (Link for Kenyan readers HERE.)

2. A great substitute for cleansing that remains a step above the slap-n-go soap and water routine, is micellar water. Good micellar water should effectively cleanse skin and remove makeup without you having to tug at your skin to do so. It should also your skin feeling soft and hydrated. Affordable options include micellar waters by Simple and Garnier.

3. Toning, restoring the skin's balance, is arguably one of the most important and most effective steps in any skincare routine. It typically follows a cleanse and can be achieved using simple methods such as mixing apple cider vinegar with water in a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on your skin type (for example, if you have acne-prone or oily skin), before rubbing the solution over your face using a soft cotton ball. They are a lot of toners that range from inexpensive to luxury, specially formulated to suit different skin needs. Something like the Clinique Clarifying Lotion has gotten great reviews as it comes in varying strengths depending on your skin type.

4. Moisturize using products that are light but hydrating to avoid clogging up your pores. If you need to go heavier, do so when it comes to your nighttime routine. Also as much as you can, try to avoid mattifying moisturizers. Recommend: cult classic Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion and Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser.

5. As an extra step, go for a bit of deep cleansing by treating yourself to a weekly home facial. There are several options for face masks on the market ranging from charcoal masks to hydrating green tea masks. All-around do-gooders are clay or mud masks as they are known to deep treat pores and restore skin’s radiance.

So, how are you going to get on with your skincare routine?

Good luck!
